Lesson 11

Pronunciation - Faa
The sound made by "f" in the English word 'fox'

Pronunciation - Qaf
This is a novel sound for English speakers. To pronounce qaf, touch the root of your tongue to the palate towards the throat. The sound is created by constricting the throat and raising the back of the tongue towards the uvula.
Cultural note: Many Arabic speaking countries in the Levant (i.e., Lebanon, Jordan, Syria) do not pronounce this letter, although it varies between areas.
Instead, it is skipped and pronounced as a glottal stop.
